Running Out of Time is a project inspired by the band Rexy's Running Out of Time. It was screened as a performance at IAC, Chelsea as part of NYU Tisch's Big Screens event on Dec 8th, 2017.
The song by the band Rexy is beautiful and haunting. The music video itself explores the life cycle of human beings from an existential perspective. While the theme was obvious, we decided to unpack the idea a bit more. At the end it, the story implicit in the song wasn't about death but more about life that wasn't lived.
The resolution for the event Big Screens was 11520x1080. To make the video for the event, we had to keep the volume and the way light interacts with the space. A black and white was a no brainer since given the hall and installation nature of the end product, it simply paid to have alternating light and dark as you can see in the following gif.

The animations for this project was greatly helped by Stephane Baril's open source plugins (Animdessin and Animcoleur). My animation broadly happened in four parts as illustrated below. The following animation is from the work-in-progress youtube version of the music video.
Pure line animation. Arguably the most time consuming part of this process.
Then I make shader lines to help with the lighting.
Then comes the coloring bit.
Finally, the colors along with the completed shader/lighting layer.
